Description

Trial-trenched evaluation was carried out by Archaeology South-East in January 2017 in advance of the construction of a housing development. Twenty-two trenches, each 30m long x 1.8m wide, were excavated across the 1.84ha. site. Archaeological features were recorded in three trenches, comprising a pit (in T9), a posthole (in T15) and a ditch/gully terminus (in T17). No artefacts were retrieved and the features remain undated.<1> Two small areas (focussed on the archaeological features defined by evaluation) were subsequently the subject of strip, map and sample excavations in February 2017 (ECC3955).<2> The trial-trenched evaluation followed a geophysical survey (ECC3729).
