Description

A trial-trenched evaluation was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in August 2016 at Bourne Court, Mersea Road, Colchester, in advance of the construction of twenty-seven new dwellings (CBC planning application 160071). Seven trial trenches were excavated, totalling 154m long x 1.8m wide. No archaeological remains were identified. The report suggests that 'possibly part of the old river bed' was defined in T1 and T2 (the lies at the head of a small tributary of the Colne, which feeds Bourne Pond). Part of the remains of the demolished chapel of rest (which posts the 1966-68 1:10k map) were also identified T2.<1>
