Description

Three trial-trenches (32m in total x 1.8m wide) were excavated by Colchester Archaeological Trust in September 2016 in advance of residential development (CBC planning application 161321). All three trenches were excavated through modern topsoil (L1, c 100-190mm thick) onto a grey/brown silty subsoil (L2, c .170-320mm thick) which sealed natural sands and gravels (L3). A modern concrete plinth was recorded in trench T1, but no significant archaeological horizons were identified in any of the trenches.<1>
