Description

The 13.39ha former Meeanee & Hyderabad Barracks, Colchester, referred to as Area A1 within the general Colchester Garrison redevelopment project, was the subject of a second stage of trial-trenched evaluation (post-determination) between October and December 2010. 2.61% (3,495m²) was undertaken in the form of 1,942m of 1.8m wide trenches in the early stages of the demolition in 2010 (T1-67).<1> This work followed a stage 1a (pre-determination) evaluation in 2002 (ECC2554), giving a 3% sample in total.<2> The evaluation was followed by (stage 2) mitigation excavations between January to Jul 2011, excavated as eleven separate Sites (A – K).<1> It was also followed by a programme of building record of the decommisioned buildings in 2013.<3>
