Description

Two trial trenches were excavated by Colchester Archaeological Group in 1993/4, in the avenue at Bellhouse gravel pit between Gol Grove and Warren Lane (11m x 0.8m wide across the holloway and into the banks), the second on Gol Grove and partly in the adjacent Hanging Wood (22m x 0.8m). There was little dating evidence but some post-medieval maetrial was recovered, indicating the track and banks are of post-medieval or medieval date.<1>
