Trial-trenched evaluation relating to this development was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in 2011 (CAT report 627, Colchester Urban Archaeological Database no. ECC2994). Archaeological investigation of the area of ditch F141 defined in Evaluation Trench 237, to the north of Bergholt Road, is to be carried out prior to development, comprising a controlled strip and full excavation of archaeological features present in the area. The ditch F141 is to be used as the centre of the excavation area, measuring 80 x 20m (min).
