Description
The pargetting on 44 St Johns Street was recorded by Richard Shackle.<1>
44 St. Johns Street is a timber-framed building with a clay tile roof. It is a substantial building of at least three bays built about 1700. It now has a building of about 1800 built against it, but the west end once faced an open space, and has the remains of pargetting on it. The whole of this end wall was probably pargetted but it only survives in the gable. The pargetting is a scallop pattern separating a cross-hatched centre from a plain border round the edge. The details of the scallop pattern are only tentative, as the pattern is damaged in some areas and hidden elsewhere.
