Description

A detailed gradiometer survey was conducted over 27ha. of land at Holmwood Farm, Fingringhoe. The surveyable area was reduced to approximately 16ha. due to land drainage ditches and overgrowth between the field boundaries and sea wall. <1> The gradiometer survey demonstrated the presence of a number of anomalies but none of these appeared to be of obvious archaeological origin. Field drains were clearly present throughout the survey area and the eastern extents of the survey also presented areas of geological responses thought to relate to the former salt marshes.
