Description

A gradiometry survey was conducted by Stratascan over c.50 hectares of arable and grassland on the northern edge of Colchester (to the north and south of the A12). The survey identified the corner of an undated enclosure along with a number of possible associated linear responses. Another possible linear anomaly is seen in Plot 3, although this could equally relate to agricultural activity. A number of former field boundaries and areas of modern ploughing suggests the area has been used mostly for agricultural purposes since the medieval period. The remaining anomalies are modern or natural in origin. The modern anomalies relate to underground services, land drains, made ground, scattered magnetic debris, ferrous objects, and fencing. <1>
