Description

On 3rd October 1949 a Roman wall was found running N-S at the south corner of North Hill and St Peter's Street. The top of it was 27in., the bottom more than 76" below the surface of the street. The thickness of it was 2ft and the materials stone and tile. The ground to the east of it was well seen to be all made-up, chiefly of river mud and dark, wet earth. On its west side little could be observed, but what could be seen similar to that on the east. <1>
