Description

Colchester Archaeological Trust monitored the excavation of foundation trenches for the rebuild of 30 St Clare Road, Colchester, as well as the excavation of foundation trenches for a new garage, the excavation of drain runs and a soakaway. The foundation trenches were excavated to a depth of around 1m below ground level through topsoil that had been disturbed by the demolition of the original property, and through a thick deposit of homogenous sandy silt sealing the natural sand and gravel. No features of archaeological significance were recorded during the watching brief. One fragment of Roman tile (119g) was recovered from the topsoil. <1>
