Description

A CAT archaeologist observed the excavation of four trenches (T1-T4) which were dug to uncover service pipes running underneath Circular Road North. <1> T1: The service pipe was located at 100mm. At 80mm, a greensand wall foundation was discovered, which is part of the Roman circus. T2: The service pipe was located at 700mm, at which point a natural orange-yellow gravelly sand was reached. T3: The service pipe was located at 700mm. The trench contained a number of modern bricks and ceramics (not kept); however, natural was not reached. T4: Same as T3. No finds
