Description

Four trial trenches, each 10m long x 1.8m wide, were excavated on land adjacent to the current golf course. A single possible undated linear feature (ditch?) was defined in T2 (MCC4964). The ground in the wooded area was also inspected for earthworks, described as 'many small bumps and shallow depressions'. The report suggested these probably related to the past use for military training (dug-outs and latrines). Two relatively large grass-covered mounds were also recorded: Mound “A” was c.0.95m high and c.3.7-4.6m in diameter. Mound “B” was 0.65m high and c.2.9-3.7m in diameter.<1>
