Description

In January 1936 a wall, judged by Mr E.J.Rudsale to be Roman was cut through the east pavement of Queen Street opposite the corner of Short Wire Street and 9ft 6" south of the south corner of the National Bus Company's garage. It was 14" wide and 2ft 6" high. On its south side his sketch shows all the earth as modern rubble and made ground, on the other side 'mixed soil', presumably similar. There was sand over the top, and there is a note of a 'thin tile' apparently on top of the wall. The latter ran E-W. <1>
