Description

The excavations for building the new Police Station on the site of the former Soldiers' Home in Queen Street were carried out in 1939 with such speed that adequate observation of the finds was impossible. Remains of a Roman wall were found and red tessellated pavements, but they could not be planned. See Hull's 'Roman Colchester' for details of small finds'. <1>
