Description
Archaeological remains were observed during engineering test pitting (for test pits) inside the shop premises at 22-24 High Street, Colchester (formerly John Menzies' newsagents) between December 1999 and January 2000. <1>
Significant archaeological horizons, probably all Roman in date, were observed at 29.60m above Ordnance Datum slightly north of centre of the premises. This level coincides with 1.00m below the top of the existing floor slab.
