Description

In September 1930 a new water main was laid up the High Street, a little north of the centre line. Opposite the west centre of Bedwell's shop there was an oak post 10" square, just under the concrete of the road. To the west of this there was a layer of red, burnt earth, extending 15 yards west of a point about opposite the site of the centre of Adams's Garage. Mr P.G. Laver says ' at a depth of 2ft 9", about, were remains probably of the road surface, but this is much damaged and no definite layer could be made out, but much large road material'. <1><2>
