Description

It has long been know from aerial photography that there was a Roman road running from Colchester town to Gosbecks. This was surveyed by resistivity with poor results and sectioned by the Colchester Archaeological Trust when the new houses were built (ECC2504). This report covers a small magnetic survey carried out with the object of determining whether the road could be found where it crosses Oliver’s Lane, entering the park parallel with the Roman theatre. The survey successfully detected evidence of the road at grid point 22. Other features found show evidence of occupation and suggest that further survey work should be carried out in this part of the Archaeological Park. <1><2>
