Description
A watching brief was carried out during the groundwork phase for a residential development consisting of three new blocks at Kingsmead House – Block A, Block B and Block C (the latter being the gatehouse). The development site, which measured 56m x 54m, was formerly occupied by the Royal Eastern Counties Hospital. Intermittent monitoring visits were made archaeologist during the excavation of strip footings. The work revealed a single undated feature, probably a ditch, which is approximately 26m east of the line of the Shrub End Dyke. <1>
