Description
A trial-trenched evaluation was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in September 2000 to investigate the archaeological implications of a proposal to install a swimming pool in the rear garden at 41a Castle Road. The evaluation consisted of a single trench, 2m square, dug by hand to a depth of 1.4m. Occasional fragments of peg-tile, post-medieval and Roman pottery and animal bone fragments were found, as well as some residual Roman building debris. No archaeological significant features were revealed. <1>
