Description
Two trial-trenches were excavated at Lexden Grange, the site of two late Iron Age cremation burials. The evaluation failed to locate any further examples. The trench at the front of the Grange revealed Roman pits, proving some Roman activity on the site, but the nature of this activity is hard to define because of the limited nature of the investigation. The trench to the rear of the Grange showed some modern disturbance from the creation of the car-parking area.<1>
A watching brief was subsequently carried out in 2006-7 (ECC2738).<2>
