An evaluation by a single trial trench confirmed the expected survival of Roman deposits on the site of a proposed extension to the rear of 63 North Hill. The highest surviving significant deposit (a layer of Roman wall material robbed out in medieval times was 0.25 below modern surface (31.00m AOD). The bottom of the sequence of archaeological material (all Roman in date) was at 1.75m below modern surface (29.25m AOD).
