Description

In January 1922 a pavement was found immediately inside the NE corner of Lion Walk, when sinking a petrol tank. The plain red floor was tilted towards the middle, where it was spoilt by a pit of uncertain date. The end of a Roman wall 3ft thick just showed in the south face of the excavation. The pavement was 2ft 6" to 4ft 6" from the surface, and to the top of a wall was 5ft. <1><2>
