Description

Two vessels found under the lawn of a new house in St Clare Road, on the east side, near the North end of the Road, on 1954. They were not definitely associated together but were not far apart. They were given to the Museum by a Mr Smith, known to Mr A.F.Hall. COLEM 1954.586 Lower part of a tall, tapering vessel of Belgic form of thick ware which has been polished, but is not soapy in character, being grey to brown, sandy and almost Romanising. COLEM 1954.587 Most part of an urn of thin, drab sandy ware which was polished top and bottom. Rim missing, the shoulder was polished and has a groove. The base is not polished underneath.<1><2> Possibly late Iron Age or Early Roman in date.<3>
