Description

Two boreholes were drilled using conventional shell and augur method on the site of a proposed housing development. The investigation confirmed the presence of London Clay beneath the site but fluvioglacial sands and gravels were not found at either of the boreholes. Pockets of granular material were found within the clay near the surface and this may indicate a shallow solifluction deposit. Topsoil thickness was about 0.5m and contained some wood and brick rubble in borehole 2.<1>
