Description

Seven exploratory boreholes were sunk in an attempt to determine the cause of structural damage to a house at 8 Sorrel Close, Colchester. The boreholes suggest that the house sits on the edge or side of a valley that has been infilled, with the right flank of the structure being underlain by approximately 3.7m of sand and clay which in turn overlies London Clay. On the left flank the house sits on London Clay approximately 1.5m below ground level. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.<1>
