Description

Four boreholes were drilled on the site of a proposed new building at Hawkins Road, Colchester. The boreholes were 150mm diameter and were sunk by shell and borehole methods to depths between 12m and 20m. The boreholes revealed small amounts of fill followed by organic clay (alluvium) overlying sand and gravel (at depths of between 2.0 and 3.5m and resting on the London Clay encountered at depths of between 8.6 and 12.1m below the surface.<1>
