Description

A single borehole was drilled on the site of a proposed new quay at the Hythe, Colchester. The borehole indicated 'made ground' consisting mainly of sand, brick rubble and broken concrete to 1.6m underlain by alluvial clays extending to 3.5m below ground level. At this level sand and gravel was encountered overlying at 5.7m the apparently upper surface of London Clay which extended to the limit of the borehole.<1>
