Description

Trial pits were excavated at three sites in Greenstead, all of which were to be developed for housing. Although showing similar characteristics, the strata were at different levels. At land off Sycamore Road, London Clay was found to a depth of 2.1m below which was firm, damp sand. At land off Lime Avenue, very hard light brown silty material overlay a bed of flints on top of the blue clay. At land along Magnolia Drive, light brown/grey clay overlay, yellow and blue sand and gravel at 1.7m. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted on any of the sites.<1>
