Description

A soil survey was undertaken ahead of the proposed development of two-storey flats. Five trial holes were sited to be representative of both east and west blocks and a link block. The holes were placed so as not to disturb ground where foundations were to be placed. The site was found generally to be covered with 1m of topsoil, the upper 300mm of which contained building rubble (presumably from demolition of the old school which stood on the site). The topsoil overlay compact soft sand of uniform grading which was proved to a depth of 3m. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.<1>
