Description

Wire notes on 19/6/1851 ' Visited the sewerage works in the street leading to the Castle (Museum Street) by Mr. Crosse's, Broker. The foundation of the outer wall of the castle was discovered about 18ins below the surface and though built of the same material as that structure it was a very difficult matter to break it up. I always thought the entrance to the Castle was here, but it could not be, as the remains testify. Upon an examination of an old map I find it was somewhere about Messrs Joslin's workshop, Maidenburgh Street'.<1><2>
