Description

Four trial pits were excavated on a plot of land at 99 Bourne Road, Colchester, ahead of proposed housing. Three of the trial holes revealed similar conditions, basically a soft boulder clay overlying a firm clay at around 2.5m which was though to be the beginning of the London clay. The fourth hole, situated in the north east corner of the site revealed predominantly sandy conditions for the first 2m before reaching the boulder clay. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.<1>
