Description
A watching brief was held during rebuilding work. Removal of adjoining basement floors prior to underpinning works revealed a 7.6m length of Colchester's town wall, including the eastern part of an interval tower aligned with the north-south street between insulae 2 and 3 of the Roman town. Auguring indicated that this section of the truncated monument may survive to heights of between 0.55 and 1.2m above the wall's base offset.<1>
