Description
An evaluation was carried out at the rear of No 21 North Hill in 1994. A trench measuring 1 x 1m was laid out at the east end of the site against a retaining wall. The trench revealed three phases of Roman activity represented by floors and demolition debris, followed by an early medieval pit, an accumulation of post medieval topsoil and later 20th century topsoil. A number of these levels matched closely with those revealed during earlier investigations of the site (see ECC1927).<1> Finds included several sherds of Thetford-type ware.<2>
