Description

Some machine-dug trial trenches were excavated on the site of an extension to the Royal London Offices and Sheepen Place. A total of six trenches were dug. One trench at the rear exposed a layer of oyster shells sealing a wooden structure of some sort which is likely to be Roman. Elsewhere the trenches only revealed a substantial depth of topsoil. A watching brief was recommended for the proposed groundworks.<1>
