Description
Three trial trenches were excavated on the site of Nicholson's Nursery's, to the rear of 30/33 Priory Street, prior to redevelopment of the site for housing. The first trench was located at the centre of the site along its northern edge. It revealed nothing of archaeological significance but became waterlogged at a depth of 1m. The second trench was located in the centre of the western area of the site. It revealed nothing of archaeological significance and was also waterlogged at a depth of c.0.6m. The third and final trench was located in the centre of the eastern part of the site. Nothing of archaeological interest was revealed and the site was found to be waterlogged at a depth of 0.5m below the surface (after topsoil stripping).<1>
