Description

A watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a new mews style house on an empty plot east of the Coach House which stands east of No 4 Victoria Road. Nothing archaeological was seen in the footings trenches, surprising depth of topsoil here, stratigraphy was seen 300mm of modern turf over recent dumped sandy gravel (not more than a few decades old at most), over 1.1m of dark grey topsoil (the old land surface); over 300mm sandy orange clay (natural clay). <1>
