Description

A watching brief was undertaken during the construction of footings for a two celled extension on the south-east corner and a second northern extension of 6 Ashley Gardens. In the first extension the soil profile was: top 50cm medium brown topsoil containing combed Roman flue tile fragments, 30cm dark brown buried soil horizon? (modern) 20cm of medium brown soil, 20cm of natural gravely sand to trench bottom. A feature was observed in the northern extension, this was at a depth of 1m and contained brick chips, a fragment of peg tile and some charcoal, probably post-medieval. <1>
