Description

William Wire records in his diary 14/9/1842, 'In a conversation with Mr. J.O. Carr …[he] informed me that there had been a number of human skeletons dug up in Mr. Austons garden east side of Land Lane East Hill and that they were about one foot under the surface and lay as if promiscuously interred which induced him to believe they were the remains of some poor fellows who lost their lives during the Siege of this town'.<1>
