Description

Wire notes of mosaic pavement in the yard of one Bragg, a Baker in Bear Lane. <1> The discovery was made in 1793, the pavement had a leaf border, and measured about 22 by 17ft, extending beneath a stone wall into the adjoining garden, where it could not be excavated. <2> There is an entry in the museum register 'April 8th 1896, purchased of Thos. Foster of High Street a sketch of a Roman mosaic pavement found in the parish of St Martins in 1794'. The sketch could not be traced. <3>
