A documentary record for Stokes Mill in c.1225. By c.1225 the Mill belonged to St John's Abbey and was leased to Nicholas son of Geoffrey Spenser for 10s a year <1>The Mill stood on the Colne at the end of Land Lane (it may have been the mill belonging to St Peter's Church in 1066 and 1086).
