Description

Three small exploratory contractor holes in the cellar of No 70 North Hill, Colchester, were briefly investigated under poor lighting conditions. One of these showed that the cellar had removed the main levels of archaeological stratigraphy and that its lowest construction levels rested on clean natural sand. However an earlier tile floor of the cellar was revealed, together with two other features, a pit and a possible robber trench (or pit). Neither of these features could be directly dated, though the pit stratigraphically pre-dated the installation of the tile floor. <1>
