Description

A field visit was undertaken by the curator of Archaeology after a report that architectural fragments were uncovered during ground clearance. Various fragments of worked stone were found in the front garden of 33 Lexden Road during ground clearance for a new gravelled area. One large architectural fragment was seen possibly part of a window. Also two chamfered blocks and a window mullion. These fragments may be interpreted as part of a medieval structure, probably ecclesiastical. The nearest likely source is the Priory of the Crouched Friars. <1>
