Description

A watching brief was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in February 1995 during the installation of a new water main at Lexden Lodge Farm. The project involved cutting a narrow trench along a 900m route between Moat Farm Cottages and Spring Lane. Unfortunately heavy rain and flooding of the trench made recording impossible for most of the route, including the stretch crossing the line of Lexden Dyke. Burnt clay and tile fragments were observed in the Trench backfill just west of the northern end of the Chaseway. <1>
