Description

A watching brief was undertaken at St Mary's Arts Centre in April 1994 during the erection of a 45m length of railings along the south-western boundary of the former churchyard. This involved a series of post-holes, typically 0.6m deep x 0.25m diameter. The holes cut into dark greyish brown sandy loam which extended to the full depth of each hole. The excavated material included very occasional small fragments of peg tile and isolated fragments of oyster shell. Otherwise, no noteworthy inclusions , stratigraphy or features came to light.<1>
