Description

A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of a 0.55m wide trench, to depths of 1.1m and 1.3m, along a 300m route across agricultural land. The trench was excavated to accommodate the burial of overhead power cables as part of a local environmental improvement scheme. The trench was located in an area of known archaeological features and so was watched constantly from start to finish. A variety of buried features were observed along the route including: several ditches and pits of undetermined date and Roman kiln destruction debris.<1>
