Description
A watching brief was held during the groundwork for a new block of flats along Burlington Road. Test trenches indicated that about two thirds of the area to be built on contains five metres depth of "made-up ground" (probably 19th century sand pit fill). This was piled during construction. Foundation trenches in the rest of the area revealed only featureless subsoil above natural sand.<1>
