Description

A watching brief was held during groundwork at Spurgeon Street/Hythe Hill. Two visits were made during the widening of the Spurgeon St. Hythe Hill junction. A cutting was made in the east side adjacent to 133 Hythe Hill exposing a section comprised of 30 cms of topsoil above natural sand and gravel. During the second visit the strip foundations were being dug for a building at the corner of Spurgeon Street. No significant features were visible. Only c.19th Century foundations and concrete slabs from previous building. Natural sand and gravel was observed at 0.9m. Negative evidence. <1>
