Description

A watching brief was held during the insertion of pipe trenches through 'thrust boring' between trenches. Four trenches were observed but no archaeologically significant features were revealed. Trench A was situated immediately to the west of the castle park gates. It was 0.65m by 1.8m and reached a depth of 0.7m. Trench B was situated further to the west and was 0.96m by 1.83m and reached a depth of 0.8m. Trench C was L shaped. The lower arm measured 0.66m by 1.7m and the upper arm 0.52m by 1.6m. It reached a depth of 0.64m. Trench D was situated immediately to the east of the Castle Park gate and measured 0.9m by 0. 6m. It was 0.75m deep.<1>
