Description

Watching brief held during the groundwork for a subway running beneath West Stockwell Street between the Town Hall and Council offices at Angel Court. The east side of the Town Hall basement was underpinned. Natural sand was located at a depth of c.2.2m from West Stockwell Street. The Town Hall basement had removed all archaeological deposits to a depth of 4m below the street level. The new work revealed medieval brick and two lumps of Roman masonry.<1><2>
